On Wednesday, Elon Musk's social networking site X was once again accessible after a 40-day ban in Brazil stemming from a court dispute over misinformation.

Within the largest Latin American market for X, Brazil, was able to visit the website a day after the Supreme Court lifted the prohibition.

Users reacted joyfully to its comeback with the hashtag “voltou” (I’m back) trending. The reactivation appeared to be taking place slowly, however, with some users still failing to connect.

X had 22 million users in Brazil before it was blocked on August 30 by Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes for failing to comply with a series of court orders aimed at combatting disinformation.

Tuesday, Moraes gave the go-ahead for it to start operating again after X met with numerous conditions and paid millions of dollars in fines.

The world watched with great interest as the powerful judge squared off against the richest man on the planet, Elon Musk, who has been charged with facilitating the spread of hate speech and misinformation on the once-named Twitter platform.

Musk had lashed out at Moraes over the ban, calling him an “evil dictator” and dubbing him “Voldemort”, after the villain from the Harry Potter series.
