Apple made a significant foray into generative AI on Monday when it released its first set of AI features, known as "Apple Intelligence," across its high-end iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.
Apple's entry into the AI competition, which has seen the US tech titans rush into ChatGPT-style technologies, was initially hinted at by the company in June.
Apple delays rollout of AI features in Europe
Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple have increased their investments in order to stay ahead of the curve because they believe that generative AI will be the next big thing in computing.
In a blog post, Apple CEO Tim Cook stated, "Apple Intelligence is generative AI in a way that only Apple can deliver, and we're incredibly excited about its ability to enrich our users' lives."
Improved writing tools, better photo searching, and a more conversational Siri virtual assistant are among Apple's new improvements. By December, the company also intends to include ChatGPT's capabilities into its services.
The ability to produce graphics from text descriptions and generate unique emoji are two more capabilities scheduled for December.
Most of the functions are restricted to the most recent models of Mac computers and iPhones and iPads.
Apple Intelligence's capabilities are currently limited to US English. In the upcoming year, versions will be made available in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Korean, and other languages.
Due to "regulatory uncertainties" associated with new laws, Apple announced during the June launch event that it had postponed the introduction of Apple Intelligence in the EU indefinitely.
According to the latest information, the majority of the products will be accessible in the EU on Mac computers in US English, and they will start to be implemented on iPhones and iPads in April. Other Apple Intelligence features include the ability to eliminate undesired objects from photos and system-wide writing tools that can edit and proofread text.
In general, the characteristics are comparable to those of tools that Google, Microsoft, and Meta have just published.
The company stated that its technology prioritizes customer privacy by keeping processing on-device or by employing a new "Private Cloud" approach, despite worries regarding the security of AI models.
The company claims that by doing this, personal data will remain within the Apple ecosystem, which values data privacy.
On Monday, Apple also announced the iMac, a new desktop computer with Apple Intelligence.
