Since Google is testing verified checkmarks in its search results, it appears that the tech giant is bringing back the exclusivity of verified checkmarks, which were formerly a status symbol on the internet, particularly on social media, until Elon Musk made them available to everyone via X.
This is a new feature that is only visible to a select few Google users. Anyone who has used social media recently would recognize it. This is how it will seem.
This development comes with mixed ramifications. On the bright side, it restricts access for average people. However, it also currently excludes influencers and media personalities.
Their main objective is to confirm the legitimacy of business links, which is a vital function given the pervasive spam problems affecting Google's search engine. Google has released a disclaimer claiming that it “cannot guarantee the reliability” of any business or its offerings, despite this attempt to increase customer trust.
Molly Shaheen, Google’s spokesperson for public affairs told The Verge:


We regularly experiment with features that help shoppers identify trustworthy businesses online, and we are currently running a small experiment showing checkmarks next to certain businesses on Google.
