ISLAMABAD According to a news statement released by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan on Sunday, 200 fully and partially financed scholarships have been given to the sixth group of Sri Lankan students under the Allama Mohammad Iqbal Scholarship Program.
In addition to these honorees, it stated that about 500 Sri Lankan students were already enrolled in prestigious Pakistani colleges to pursue undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees.
“HEC in collaboration with the Pakistan High Commission, Colombo held a ceremony for the newly-selected students in Colombo. General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff was the chief guest. High Commissioner of Pakistan to Sri Lanka Maj. Gen. (R) Faheem Ul Aziz also graced the occasion,” the press release said.
Speaking on behalf of the HEC chairman, Jehanzeb Khan, Project Director, Pakistan-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Program, thanked the Sri Lankan students and gave the attendees an overview of the scholarship's many components.
He emphasized the value of education in fostering cooperation between the two friendly nations and delivering economic stability to the area. Giving these scholarships to Sri Lankan students, according to the Pakistani high commissioner, is just one more example of the great brotherly ties that exist between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
He urged the students to embrace this opportunity with determination and resilience.
“As you pursue your studies, remember that you are ambassadors of your country and culture. Engage with your peers, share your experiences, and be a bridge between our two nations. The knowledge and understanding you gain will be invaluable as we work together to address the challenges we face in the ever-changing world,” he said.
Prominent figures from a variety of backgrounds, including government representatives, academics, businesspeople, and parents of the awardee students, attended the ceremony.
